STRUCTURES OF BEING

Immersed in the vibrant tapestry of artistic exploration and architectural splendor, the RF.C Collection is thrilled to unveil the outcome of a profound collaboration with the iconic Casa Batlló in Barcelona. This ambitious project melds the digital ingenuity of Sofia Crespo with the enduring cultural resonance embedded within Antoni Gaudí's architectural opus.

Sofia Crespo's avant-garde foray into digital artistry manifests in the creation of entities that transcend the conventional bounds of existence. Employing artificial neural networks as her artistic medium, Crespo navigates the intricacies of data, extracting visual patterns to craft entities that seem to transcend the boundaries of our collective imagination. Within the walls of Casa Batlló, she harnesses AI-trained neural networks to encapsulate the diverse natural forms seamlessly integrated by Gaudí into his architectural canvas. The entities born from this synergy, engaged in a visual dialogue with the three-dimensional scans of the facade, stand as a testament to the harmonious intersection of cutting-edge artistry and timeless architectural vision.

Sofia's meticulous exploration of the varied life forms, minerals, and shells dwelling within Casa Batlló becomes the linchpin for this collaborative venture. This thorough investigation not only acts as a creative impetus but also establishes a profound connection between her artistic methodology and the ingenious approach of Gaudí. Their shared practice of extracting patterns from the natural world serves as a conduit for temporal and technological convergence, weaving a narrative thread that binds their creative legacies.

The intricacies of translating Gaudí's inspirations onto the distinctive facade posed a formidable challenge, one that Sofia met with unwavering dedication. In her own words, "The great challenge has been to convey Gaudí’s inspirations on a facade that has a lot of personality and intricate details. I wanted to capture how he worked and thought, including the materials, symbolism, and his more spiritual dimension. It has been a fascinating project because it combines art and technology, the cultural legacy of Barcelona, and a creator whose work is still alive and constantly reinterpreted by artists."

Beyond the realms of artistic expression, Sofia’s collaboration extended to a dynamic partnership with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centrol Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS). Their expertise in the aquatic sequence of the mapping, providing high-resolution ocean circulation models, played a pivotal role. These models, integral to expansive European projects such as DestinE, contribute significantly to the creation of a digital twin of the ocean and Earth, a vital tool for comprehending and predicting climate change.

In tandem with the visual experience, this collaborative masterpiece also unfolds with a unique musical component. Renowned composer and performer of generative and adaptive music, Robert M. Thomas, infuses the project with an ever-changing auditory tapestry. Thomas defines his role as a composer by creating algorithms that act as living beings, organic technology evolving to produce a musical piece. The music, inspired by the life and trajectory of Gaudí, serves as a sonic journey mirroring the creative exploration of an artist who sought to break boundaries and reach his greatest potential.

At The RF.C Collection, our involvement in this multifaceted project spans from the careful curation of artists to providing technological support and orchestrating public relations initiatives. We take pride in our integral role in realizing this unique exhibition, a harmonious convergence of art, technology, and the timeless cultural heritage embodied by Casa Batlló. Join us as we navigate the intricate interplay between innovation and tradition, where the digital realm converges with the tangible beauty of Gaudí's architectural masterpiece.
